Los Pinos 11 mile hike

April 23, 2016

Los Pinos was the hike chosen to do this day in preparation of the Grand Canyon hike. We had already done this exact same hike last year up in Trabuco Canyon but we had parked about a half mile away before the trail head and this time we got a parking spot at the trail head. This hike was 5.5 miles to the top of a small mountain on the Southern side of Saddleback Mountain. You hike to an elevation of 4510 feet and starting about 1300 feet. We thought this hike was pretty simple compared to other hikes we had done. Mom and Dad decided to join us and were struggling to keep up but they did make it to the top and back. The funny thing about the whole hike was that we thought it was only about 9 miles round trip and ended up being a couple miles more than that. We were pretty proud of Mom for putting up with the hike.

Hiking up didn’t feel long at all to get to the top but the hike back down was a killer as it felt like twice as long to get back to the car. The weather was quite nice and cool but unfortunately we most likely won’t have that on our Grand Canyon hike in June. Below are some pictures of all of us.
