Oklahoma, Kansas 6/27

We woke up just outside Santa Fe to a pleasant chill in the air, we thought we wouldn’t have any cool weather on our trip but we got lucky. We slept in our car again and it was a good night’s sleep. Once we got ready for the day we got back on the road to head for Oklahoma. It was a good 3 and a half hours to get there and we were quite surprised to see that the east side of New Mexico was quite green.

Oklahoma

We stopped in the middle of the handle of the state at a place called Boise City. It was a small town and the people there were really nice and had thick accents. We had lunch at Rockin A Café which was really good and delightful. The outside looked like a small shop in the middle of a dirt lot and on the inside were displayed a bunch of funny quotes and riddles and words of many sorts. The waitresses had thick southern accents and very nice. Alyssa ordered a burger with fried okra and I had their Philly Cheesteak sandwich. If you ever pass through Boise City in Oklahoma we highly recommend going to this café.

One cool fact driving from Santa Fe to Oklahoma is that we got to be on the very corner of Texas, I didn’t think there was going to be a road there but there is.

Kansas

We still had a ways to drive to get to where we wanted to stay the night, Wichita, Kansas. That was another 4 hours to get to. Once we got to Wichita I asked a friend of mine what there was to do there we didn’t think there was much to do. My friend told us most people go to the movies, especially when it gets really hot. We decided to go to the Grille theater which is a restaurant and movie theatre in one, the food was quite good and the movie was just okay, we saw Independence Day 2. After the movie we were trying to decide where to stay the night, Alyssa found a campsite at a nearby lake, it was a good place to watch the distant thunderstorm while going to sleep, we were lucky that the bugs didn’t get inside, we were skeptical of opening the car doors because of all the bugs so we actually got ready for bed without opening them, then we had to open the doors to put on our bug screens but the bugs stayed out fortunately.
