How to make Money using your Prius in 2021

There are numerous ways to make money, owning a Prius may help you make a little more money. Some ways you can make money using your car expands from food delivery, renting your vehicle, blogging your travels, vlogging about your experiences and even starting a business using your vehicle as a work vehicle. The Prius is a great car for going places cheaply with it’s hybrid system allowing you to make the most of your money with low maintenance and low cost of operation. I have continued to use our Prius to help make some extra income. The jobs that I have done with my Prius have been through apps such as GrubHub, Postmates, Instacart, TaskRabbit, and even Handy. There are many other ways to earn money through ridesharing apps such as Uber and Lyft but there are a few more requirements in order to operates as a driver, for example, your vehicle maybe too old or out of their standards for carrying passengers.

1. Food Delivery Driver –

    • Postmates, GrubHub, Uber Eats, DoorDash -These are all food delivery services where you can make between $14-25 an hour and sometimes more depending on how many jobs you get requested to do. If you like driving a lot for work this is an easy way to make a few bucks and you can get paid pretty quickly, most of time same-day. This is perfect for working flexibly. If you live in an area where there is a lot of people you can be quite busy especially around lunch and dinner hours, there are bonuses for working during peak hours too.
    • Pros- flexible hours, pay can be pretty good. Lots of little deliveries will get you extra pay especially during rush hour. Easy to use the apps and directions.
    • Cons- Orders can take a long time to be processed, some require you to stand in lines and order the food. Some orders can be far to deliver. Orders are not always available right away and can cost you from getting more requests. Sometimes you get absurd requests from customers and they sometimes aren’t easy to find.

2. Riding Sharing-

    • Uber and Lyft are the most popular ride sharing apps people use to get around these days. They are typically more affordable for people to use than the Taxi service and almost anyone with a car can join. These services start from a request for a pick up at point A and taken to point B. It is an easy job and you can save even more money when you drive a Prius to complete these requests. Most of these requests for ride sharing are local request so you won’t always be driving far. Uber and Lyft are the top paying apps for ride sharing but there is also Turo and Getaround that allows you to rent your car for people to use.
    • Pros- Easy service to complete. Pay is fair and can be better depending on the request. Most people are nice and polite. The work is flexible and can start whenever you want. Ratings and tips are nice too.
    • Cons – Low pay, drunk customers, car can get dirty quickly. You’ll add a lot of miles onto your vehicle quickly. Must maintain and clean your vehicle often. Vehicles need to be less than 10 years old. Insurance is higher. Highly competitive market and there are more regulations coming out as more people join to drive.

3. Blogging/ Vlogging-

    • Blogging and Vlogging have been around for a good amount of time now especially with advancements in web developments and the internet. Typically you do advertising or campaigning to build a customer base and a following for interests in things that you talk about. Many of these vlogs and blogs talk about cars, traveling, clothing, camping, and almost anything you can think of. Advertising and sponsors are the top way of earning money from vlogging and blogging. WordPress, Social Media, YouTube are some of the best ways to get started.
    • Pros – Vlogging and Blogging can be done from anywhere at anytime. It can pay very well and you are are free to do anything you’d like and talk about almost anything you want. 
    • Cons – It takes a lot of time to develop and maintain a following as well as to build a reputable channel/ website to get to higher paid sponsors and advertisements. It can be difficult to be creative and build your audience.

4. Odd Jobs –

    • Many people need help. They need help putting items together, picking things up, getting things done. Some of these things can be as easy as putting together furniture or watching someone’s kids and they can be difficult like cleaning an old pool or repairing some plumbing fixtures. Handy, TaskRabbit, Task, and other apps can help you obtain these odd jobs.
    • Pros – Can make large amounts of money doing small projects. Easy to get clients and is a lot fun with new things at every corner. Variety keeps you busy and doing different things.
    • Cons – Does take time to build a clientele. Can cost you a lot in tools and supplies. Must have some skills and knowledge of how to do different things. Must be able to think outside the box to solve problems. Large areas to work equals lots of driving miles. Some require licensing and insurance.
